Small-business owners in Cuernavaca's city center closed their door for one hour in protest against increasing public insecurity, robberies and poor street conditions.
The protesters, who closed their doors between 12:00 and 1:00 pm, demand to establish a main line of communication with municipal authorities
In an interview with a local businessman, who declined to share his name, he told reporters that three of his neighbors' businesses were robbed at gunpoint in the last week alone, which is why they're demanding for increased police security in the area, as well as public surveillance cameras, since he claims that most robberies occur in broad daylight.
This is the first protest of its kind by small-business owners demanding heightened security and better public services during the former professional soccer player Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravo's current term as Cuernavaca's mayor.
