“ The Power of the South Wind-Across Borders ” by Mexican artist , Jose Luis Bustamante ( Mexico City, 1955 ), was inaugurated this week at The National Arts Club in New York .
The exhibition was inspired by the artist's observation of the powerful migration of the south wind and it is a subtle political evocation in defense of freedom of movement rejecting arbitrary barriers .
"The theme is southern winds as if they were tenuous, warm and soft voices within a spirit inspired by freedom ," said the Mexican artist.
Bustamante has created a body of work that captures the warm yet powerful elements of the physical world and emotional spaces after his diligent study of color and movement.
The artist creates an environment of continuous flow and creative freedom by installing unique groupings of diptych, triptych, and polyptych.
“A master colorist, Bustamante’s power of communication is immediate and arresting and allows him to effortlessly combine his pictorial, cultural and political visions and views,” The National Arts Club wrote regarding the exhibition.
Bustamante said that even though he avoided direct mention of the current political situation of Latin American migrants in the United States, he strongly believes that art heals, cleans, and relieves the spirit of people when they look into a painting.
Jose Luis Bustamante has exhibited his work in museums and galleries in t he United States , Canada , Spain , Cuba and the Dominican Republic .
“The Power of the South Wind-Across Borders” will be exhibited in the Greg Gallery at The National Arts Club in New York from October 2 to November 25 .
