Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto met yesterday with J ared Kushner , Senior adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss an “orderly” migration, according to a statement released by Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Pursuant to the document, the Ministry claims Peña Nieto and Kushner discussed a “potential project to launch a mobility circular program for agricultural workers ,” in addition to other issues, such as development in Central America, job creation, and shared prosperity based on “fair and reciprocal trade,” and the continuation of the talks to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
On a possible encounter between Trump and Peña Nieto , officials of both countries confirmed the meeting would depend on the agreements reached regarding the “comprehensive relationship” of the two nations, which includes NAFTA and security, immigration, and economic cooperation issues.
The statement of the Ministry added that Kushner was joined in this meeting by Kimberly Breier , Member of Policy Planning covering Western Hemisphere, and officials of the U.S. National Security Council (NSC).
For his part, President Peña Nieto was joined by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luis Videgaray and the Minister of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo .
“Jared Kushner transmitted the message of President Donald J. Trump on the importance of keep moving forward in joint initiatives,” reads the statement, adding that both countries agreed to work together to reach agreements that can benefit both countries.
“Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, joined by the Ministers Luis Videgaray and Ildefonso Guajardo, received today U.S. Senior Advisor to the President Jared Kushner, and officials of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. National Security Council,” reads the tweet of Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the visit, with a link to the official statement in Spanish.
