Communicator Gabriel Soriano is murdered in Acapulco

Commentator and producer of the Radio y Televisión de Guerrero (RTG)

station, Gabriel Soriano , was killed during an attack at the Puerto Marqués neighborhood in Acapulco , shortly after he finished broadcasting the regional report of governor Héctor Astudillo Flores .

According to the police report, around 8 PM, a van from the RTG radio station was passing through a roundabout in Puerto Marqués when it suffered an attack with heavy weapons , injuring both the commentator and the station engineer, who was driving the vehicle at the time.

The spokesman of the Guerrero Coordination Group (GCG), Roberto Álvarez Heredia , informed that the commentator had been shot in the chest and died minutes later due to the gunshot wounds.

The white van had two bullet impacts on the side of the driver and two 9mm spent casings were found on the scene .

According to local press, police forces guarded the area minutes after the attack to keep the regional report attendants away from the crime scene.

Gabriel Soriano was an engineer and producer, running a hip-hop culture program called “En Efecto” (Actually) , which was broadcast on Sundays through the Más Radio station at RTG . He was also a well-known promoter of culture in Acapulco and son of the famous journalist Javier Soriano, Chief of Information at the La Jornada newspaper in the state of Guerrero .

This is not the only case of violence targeted against journalists and communicators in the state. On June 4, 2017, Marcela de Jesús Natalia was killed at the entrance of the RTG station in Ometepec. She ran a four-hour long kids’ show. At 9:20 AM, according to police reports, a group of armed men on board of a Nissan vehicle awaited next to the station entrance. They shot her on sight.

On the night of February 5, within her own restaurant “A todos los santos,” the famous YouTuber Pamika Montenegro, also known as Nana Pelucas, was shot to death

Pamika Montenegro had created a YouTube channel called “Sillón Tv” (Couch TV) four years ago. However, two years ago, she began to represent a character called La Nana pelucas, who conducted interviews with politicians and gained viewers through political satire.

During the first three years of Astudillo Flores’ government, two reporters have been murdered

: Francisco Pacheco Beltrán, Cecilio Pineda, as well as youtuber Pamika Montenegro and the commentator Gabriel Soriano.
