Disney-Pixar film “Coco” came out on top of the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States , gathering USD $72 million at the box office over the five-day holiday weekend, according to a report by Exhibitor Relations.
Apparently, this is nothing new for the animated studios, who have traditionally dominated the weekend of this festivity with titles such as “Frozen”, “Moana”, “The Good Dinosaur”, “Tangled”, and now, “Coco.”
While this Day-of-the-Dead themed movie fared better than some of the previous films – like “Tangled” – it didn't manage to beat the record of “ Frozen ”, which earned USD$93.9 million for the same period.
However, it did come on top of “ Justice League ” – which came in second with USD$60 million – and managed to attract Hispanic audiences in the U.S., with a 39% of moviegoers belonging to this group.
"Coco" is currently the second highest-rated animated film of 2017, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
