A police officer was killed and a presumed thief was wounded in the state of Puebla when a group of people tried to lynch the suspect for stealing a motorcycle.
The incident happened Saturday night in the municipality of Yehualtepec, where relatives and friends of the victim of the alleged robber tried to lynch him at the very police headquarters where he was detained.
When they demanded that the police handed them the suspect, identified only as Noel, from Palmarito Tochapan, the officers did not yield to the pressure and that caused the already enraged multitude to get even angrier and charge against them.
In the melee one of the relatives of the alleged victim shot a gun against the suspect, wounding both him and 42-year-old officer Anastasio Poblete Pérez.
The aggressors disbanded after this and the wounded were taken to a local hospital, where Poblete Pérez died.
