The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) included Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán in its list of major international fugitives.
The boss of the Sinaloa Cartel was listed on July 16, five days after he escaped from El Altiplano prison in the State of Mexico through a mile-long tunnel.
On its website, the DEA describes Guzmán as "armed & dangerous".
A spokesperson of the DEA said that the U.S. government decided to offer a US$5 million reward for information leading to his arrest or conviction. Mexico's government has also offered a 60 million peso (US$3.7 million) reward.
El Chapo faces drug trafficking, money laundering and other charges in federal courts in Illinois, New York, Florida, Texas, California and Arizona.
