On behalf of Mexico's federal government, the Interior Ministry responded to the letter sent by intellectuals and artists asking President Peña Nieto to investigate the murder of photojournalist Rubén Espinosa and four other people in Narvarte neighborhood in Mexico City on July 30.
The Ministry reiterated that the government "strongly condemns the attacks and assaults committed against journalists and human rights advocate and that it collaborates with the competent authorities in their clarification."
It added that the commitment of President Enrique Peña Nieto to freedom of expression is demonstrated every day and that he shares the concern over the attacks against any journalist.

Roberto Campa, Human Rights Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, said that no line of investigation has been discarded.
The Ministry recalled that the mechanisms for the protection of human rights advocates and journalists protect 419 people.
