Video
footage surfaced on social media on Friday, where the actor Sergio Goyri can be heard criticizing the film community for nominating “a fucking Indigenous (woman) who says, ‘Yes, ma’am, no, ma’am.’”

Yalitza Aparicio
, from the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca , played a domestic worker in Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma,” which received 10 Oscar nominations, including a best actress nomination for Aparicio .
Later, Goyri posted a video on Instagram apologizing for his racist and discriminatory remark .
“The only thing I want to say is that it was never my intent to offend anyone. I apologize to Yalitza, who deserves (this Oscar nomination) and much more,” he said. “For me, it is an honor to see a Mexican be nominated for an Oscar .”
After the video went viral, Yalitza released a statement saying that she was proud of her Indigenous roots after a soap actor star used a racial slur to describe her.
“I am proud to be an Oaxacan Indigenous woman , and it saddens me that there are people who do not know the correct meaning of words,” Aparicio , who became the first Indigenous woman to be nominated for best actress at the Oscars , said in a statement.
This weekend, Goyri attended a red carpet in Mexico City, where he said he won't reach out to the actress to apologize to her and claimed he “would love to work with Alfonso Cuarón .”
