The white-tailed deer , Odocoileus virginianus , are “magical creatures” from Mexican forests ; unfortunately, they have been labeled as one of the most coveted species in America for its meat, skin, and antlers .
According to Jorge Gabriel Villarreal González , a wildlife expert , and author of “The hunter's code of ethics” and the head of the white-tailed deer' s Environmental Unit, this species is one of the most friendly ones.
On his book, “Diversified livestock”, the expert explains that the white-tailed deer are found all over the country, except in the Baja California peninsula.
According to the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry (Semarnat) , this mammal from America has 28 subspecies, and 14 of them inhabit Mexico .
That is, 47% of the existing species from Canada to Ecuador inhabit Mexico , and 8 are endemic of Mexico.

explains that one of their most important characteristics is their adaptability , as they successfully developed in different ecosystems , climates , terrains , soils , and vegetation .
They have even survived in areas plagued with parasites and illnesses.
The white-tailed deer 's high reproduction rate has allowed them to enlarge their populations on the short term.
Nevertheless, they have been persecuted and hunted for centuries, yet sometimes they manage to escape thanks to their advanced sight, smell, and hearing skills.
