Roberta S. Jacobson
served as ambassador to Mexico for two years and has since fostered close-knit bilateral relations with our county.
Only last February, Ms. Jacobson alongside Mexico City mayor announced the construction of the new U.S. Embassy to Mexico , with an estimated workforce of 2500 workers, 1200 of which are local.
With over 31 years of service to the U.S. government, including 16 years dedicated to the strengthening of Mexico-U.S. relations, Ms. Jacobson has been a close observer of recent developments in our country, particularly focusing her attention and voice to condemn violence against Mexican journalists via her active Twitter account.
Media outlets in Mexico and the U.S. have referred how Ms. Jacobson made her decision known via a notice to her staff yesterday. Her decision to leave her post from the Mexican diplomatic mission has been confirmed in the Twitter message posted some minutes ago:
"It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve my country as Ambassador to Mexico. After 31 years of service to the U.S. government, I will leave my post in early May to pursue other opportunities. I do so with the knowledge that the Mexico-U.S. relations stand strong and vital and confident that the incredible staff of the Mexico diplomatic mission will continue making sure it remains so. I do not have information of my successor at the time being. I take Mexico in my heart and soul and I will continue everything within my reach to keep up with my words: Together we are stronger!"
