In late April, the Center for Mexican Studies, a project between the the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the German Society for Research (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG), will open its doors in Berlin, Germany , in order to promote and highlight the research work done by the UNAM, in addition to seek further cooperation between both countries and increase the number of academics visiting the country.
During the first meeting between the DFG and the UNAM, Francisco Trigo Tavera, head of the International Affairs Coordination of the UNAM, announced that Adriana Haro Luviano , of the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature, would be in charge of the new office.
At the Graduate Department of the UNAM, Haro Luviano outlined that the new office has the purpose of establishing more links between German and Mexican institutions at an undergraduate and graduate level in order to promote student exchanges, academic mobility, and Spanish language through the application of the Spanish Proficiency Test SIELE (Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española), prepared by experts of the UNAM, the Cervantes Institute, and the Universities of Salamanca and Buenos Aires.
Haro mentioned that in 2019, the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst - DAAD) will celebrate 50 years of continuous work with the UNAM, which shows the openness of the institution to academic exchange.
