The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , better known as the Oscars , nominated two Mexicans this year!
was nominated for Best Cinematography for his work in The Irishman , the acclaimed film released by Netflix in late 2019.
According to IMDb , the Mexican cinematographer is best known for his work in acclaimed films such as Brokeback Mountain (2005), Babel (2006), Argo (2012), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and Silence (2016).
Prieto has worked with Alejandro González Iñárritu , an Academy Award Winner, on the films Amores Perros (2000), 21 Grams (2003), and Biutiful (2010).
The Mexican cinematographer was previously nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Cinematography , first in Brokeback Mountain and later in Silence .
The other Mexican nominee is Mayes C. Rubeo , who could win the award for Best Costume Design for her work in Jojo Rabbit .
According to her IMDb profile, Rubeo worked in films such as Apocalypto (2006), Avatar (2009), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Warcraft: The Beginning (2016), World War Z (2013), and John Carter (2012).
She is best known for creating the visual identities of the "Na'vi" people in Avatar .
