The Latin American Film Festival of Vancouver will screen nine Mexican films for this year’s program, which begins on August 23 and lasts 11 days.
The Mexican films to be screened are: "Las Hijas de Abril," by Michel Franco, which was shown last year at the Toronto International Film Festival; "Oso Polar," by Marcelo Tobar and "Los Años Azules," by Sofía Gómez-Cordova .

Also, "Photomatón", by Roberto Fiesco; "Desde una ventana", by Sebastián Hiriart; "El camino de la izquierda", by Paola Chavira; "Oro Rosado", by Daniel Anguiano Zúñiga; "Oasis", by Alejandro Zuno; "Mi Migración", by Aileen Candelario, which was a Mexican-American production .
The Mexican films will be screened along with films from Cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua, Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile , and other Latin American countries.
The Vancouver Film Festival is now 16 years old . It was created with the purpose of “fostering dialogue between cultures and exploring contemporary Latino and Latin-Canadian cinema."
The festival's mandate is "to encourage and appreciate films as a means of art, information and education."
The festival will begin this Thursday with the Peruvian film "Retablo," by Álvaro Delgado , in Quechua and Spanish . It will close with the Chilean "Los perros," by Marcela Said , winner of the Horizontes Latinos award at the San Sebastian Festival 2017 .
