PROFECO detects salmonella in Kellogg’s cereal

The Attorney General for Consumer Protection (PROFECO) , in cooperation with Kellogg’s , has begun a voluntary and preventive recall of the Honey Smacks cereal, which is currently being taken away from convenience stores and hypermarkets all over the country. Made in the United States , this product is considered potentially dangerous due to the presence of salmonella bacteria in some boxes.

“Kellogg’s opened an investigation along with the manufacturer of the Honey Smacks cereal shortly after coming into contact with North American authorities who reported the finding,” PROFECO explained.

The Attorney General warned that the product may contain salmonella, which can cause severe infections and can even be fatal when infecting small children, older adults, and people with a weak immune system.

"In cooperation with Kellogg's Company Mexico, we inform of the volontary and preventive recall of the "Honey Smacks" cereal, due to the potential presence of salmonella in the product. No other Kellogg's products are to be affected by this recall," PROFECO tweeted this morning.

PROFECO explained that people infected with salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomit, and abdominal pain.

This disease lasts 4 to 7 days and most people are able to recover without medical attention, although the infection can cause serious diseases and after-effects.

The company has made available a Consumer Contact Center in Mexico through the phone numbers: 56-24-21-05 (Mexico City), and 01-800-00-53-55-644 (for the rest of the country).
