Data from Mexico's 5th Government Report reveal that more than 584,000 Mexicans were repatriated from the United States during the last three years, but there is no public information yet to differentiate between those who were extradited and those who returned voluntarily .
Migrants are supported by the program We Are Mexicans ( Somos Mexicanos ), launched by the Ministry of the Interior ( Secretaría de Gobernación abbreviated Segob ) in March 2014 . This program has a facility in each federal entity and provides food, shelter and transportation services to Mexicans who were repatriated. The program allows making phone calls to family and acquaintances as well.
The Ministry of the Interior launched a strategy to strengthen policies oriented toward social reintegration of Mexicans repatriated from the U.S.
According to the National Survey of Demographic Dynamics of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography ( Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía abbreviated INEGI ), between 2009 and 2014, roughly 1 million Mexicans and their families returned to Mexico from the United States. According to the U.S. Census, during this same period, a little over 870,000 people entered the country from Mexico.
Figures indicate a trend detected by the Pew Research Center , based in Washington: more Mexicans are returning than those residing in the United States. At the same time, the immigration authorities in the U.S. have detected an increasing number of Central American immigrants and a reduction of Mexican immigrants.
