
Jesús Castillo Rangel, 121, died last Wednesday on the late afternoon at the General Hospital of Chetumal, in the southern state of Quintana Roo .
According to reports available, he experienced a respiratory failure caused by pneumonia.
He was the oldest person alive in Mexico, according to the National General Archive since Mr. Castillo was born on October 24, 1846, in Soconusco, Chiapas.
In life, Mr. Jesús Castillo talked about how he had fought in the Mexican Revolution of 1910.
He will be buried in the community of Nicolás Bravo, south of Quintana Roo, where he lived since 1989 and where he buried his wife, Fidencia.
According to the Guinness World Records , the authenticated oldest person to ever live was Jeanne Louise Calment , a French citizen who was born on February 21, 1875. She was 122 years and 164 days when she died in Arles, south of France, on August 4, 1997.
