According to information provided by the NASA , the Advance Rapid Imagining and Analysis (ARIA) team at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and The California Institute of Technology ( CALTECH ) have created a damage proxy map of Central Mexico, depicting the areas – in red and yellow pixels – likely damaged after the September 19 earthquake .
The technology uses modified images from the Copernicus Open Access Hub, and was “provided to Mexican authorities to help responders and groups supporting the response effort.”
The images were taken on September 8 (before) and September 20 (after) to create a comparison.
The virtual map is intended to be used as a guidance in the identification of damaged areas, and to show the magnitude of the deterioration.
