Mexico's grande dame of death procession

Weeks prior to Mexico's beloved tradition, the Day of the Dead (Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico on November 1 and 2 ), Mega Procesión de las Catrinas 2017 ( 2017 Catrinas Mega Procession ) will take place on Sunday, October 22 in Mexico City among flowers, makeup, music, and dances.

is led by Mega Body Paint México seeking to rescue Mexico's ancestral tradition of the Day of the Dead.

Each year, the event revolves around the Catrina (Mexico's grande dame of death) as a symbol of both acceptance and mockery towards Death.

During the official press conference held at Mexican- themed bar La Chilanguita , Jessica Elizabeth Esquivias Rodríguez , President of Mega Body Paint México and organizer of the event, disclosed some details regarding this year's edition.

This year, Jossy Javier , Mexican haute couture designer will be the event's official ambassador , a folkloric dance ensemble from Michoacán will lead the procession along with the Topos USAR BREC (nonprofit rescue brigade that played a key rescue role back in 1985, as well as during the recent earthquakes that struck the country last month) and a group of Xoloitzcuintli dogs (Mexican hairless dog) will be some of the highlights of this amazing event.

This year more than 200 makeup artists will be in charge of the characterization which will have a MXN$100 fee.

Schedule:

The characterization will start at 11:00 in the morning at the Angel of Independence , in Paseo de la Reforma while the procession to the Palace of Fine Arts ( Palacio de Bellas Artes ) will start at 19:00 in the evening.
