According to a press release issued by Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Mexico’s Foreign Minister , Luis Videgaray , addressed the international community at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, Heads of State and Government to thank the exceptional solidarity with Mexico coming from all around the world after the damage caused by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake on Tuesday, September 19 .
Mexico's Foreign Minister said in Spanish: "Today, Mexico feels embraced and it finds solace in a world which does not leave us alone in our tragedy. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the support of the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres , and of the United Nations personnel that collaborates in emergency cases to provide immediate assistance.”
“On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Secretary expressed his appreciation for the many personal gestures of support and collaboration he has received during the General Assembly,” the stated concluded.
