Guanajuato
is known for its rich history, tradition, and customs. The clash of different cultures during the colonization and indepedence of Mexico made it a very special place. Villages such as Dolores Hidalgo, Salvatierra, Yuriria, Jalpa de Cánovas, Comonfort, and Mineral de Pozos were named Magical Villages in 2012 .
Today we will tell you the story of Mineral de Pozos, where the state government started building an eco-village covering an area of 17.3 acres with floriculture works and other mechanisms for the protection of the environment, making it a sustainable Magical Village. The project was announced by Ana Azuela, head of the Mineral de Pozos Art Center .
State government institutions, as well as Mexico’s National Institute of Archeology and History , were in charge of supervising the development of the village.
Following the Conquest, Mineral de Pozos was a major mineral producer. Now, tourists will be able to visit and go inside abandoned mines in the village surroundings.
Furthermore, you will be able to see the Church of San Pedro and the Temple of Nuestra Señora de los Trabajos (Our Lady of Works), founded by Jesuit missionaries in colonial times.
Feel free to stay and rest at one of the village’s exclusive boutique hotels or its famous Craft Beer Spa and get lost in the village’s intricate pebbled streets.
You may visit the central square, the Juárez Garden, or Zaragoza square, where you will be able to purchase products offered by local producers.
Don’t miss this opportunity to visit Mexico’s first sustainable Magical Village!
