, a group of students from the Prepa Tec high school in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí has secured its place at the FIRST Robotics Competition in Houston, Texas , after winning the FIRST regional championship at the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) .
The team members assembled a robot at the national competition and won first place. “I was afraid that we hadn’t practiced enough and we had to change the entire frame,” told Nidia, one of the members of the LAMBOT 3478 team .
“The competition was exciting, in all senses of the word. It is truly rewarding to see the kids putting their knowledge into practice,” commented Federico Berndt , the team’s head coach.
Following their remarkable results, the Prepa Tec students will now participate in the regional FIRST competition from 14 to 16 March in Mexico City , which will serve them as training for their participation in the World Robotics Competition .
The team from San Luis also won the Judges Award and will move on to the Regional Robotics Competition in Salt Lake City, UT , from 28 to 30 March.
In only eight years, the team has won 30 awards , including five that were won at international competitions: Rookie All Star (2011), Engineering Inspiration (2013), Team Spirit (2014), Engineering Inspiration (2015), and the Turing division (2018) .
