Mexican girl turns down quinceañera to help those affected by COVID-19

A 15-year old Mexican girl from Mérida, Yucatán, Jiromy Xool Pech, turned down her quinceañera party to use the money to buy food she gave away to people of the Cuacel municipality who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Instead of a party, I prefer to give food to people as a way to help them,” said the young woman who lives in that Mérida municipality.

The young woman who just turned 15 years old asked her parents to use the money they were saving for a big celebration to prepare food for those who need it the most.

Jiromy Xool decided to exchange her party for an altruistic action that will help many families from her community. Her mother informed Jiromy’s decision and mentioned that Jiromy’s birthday was on August 3.

The young woman did not only share her wish but she also kept her word for she herself was delivering food last weekend along with her relatives.

Jiromy was not able to celebrate her 15th birthday due to the coronavirus pandemic and thus, she decided to donate food to families at the Caucel municipality.

She asked her parents to use the money that was meant for her quinceañera party to give food to neighbors who are struggling because of the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The feast was prepared with the turkeys they had originally raised for Jiromy’s party. They also had help from some local shops and other neighbors who joined the young woman’s good deed and helped with the food’s delivery and distribution.
