Mexican authorities
have released the wife of one of the country’s most wanted drug lords , Nemesio Oseguera , head of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel , on bail .
Rosalinda González,
who was arrested in May under organized crime and money laundering charges , was freed from prison late on September 6.
A spokesman for the Mexican Attorney General’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
González
was released after posting a bail of MXN $1.5 million and is still facing a money laundering trial . However, the judge found insufficient evidence to prosecute her for organized crime.
Last month, Mexican authorities offered an MXN $30 million reward for information leading to the capture of her husband, known as “El Mencho”.
In March, U.S. agents in Chicago named El Mencho as public enemy No. 1 and blamed his gang for using “extreme violence” to expand their share of the heroin trade. The US is offering USD $5 million for information leading to his capture .
His drug cartel , CJNG , has become one of the most violent and bloody in Mexico , pushing homicides in the country to record levels.
The criminal gang based in western Mexico is blamed for sending large quantities of crystal meth and heroin to the US and has battled the Sinaloa Cartel , formerly led by Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman , in the last years.
