Exactly three years ago, Olivia Hernández Ramírez , an embroiderer , received an interesting request from one of her friends: embroider one of his tie with traditional ornaments.
Olivia is 31 years old, she's from San Blas Atempa . In the beginning, she thought she would finish the task in a week, but the size of the tie and the fabric made it more difficult and it took her 20 days to finish each piece.
The client and other friends were impressed with the embroidery and requested more pieces. For this new endeavor, Olivia modified the size of the stitches and created a smaller frame to work. This way, she was able to finish the work in 8 hours.
In three years, Olivia has made over 300 ties and said the demands increased since October 2108, when a popular Facebook shared her work.
Her handmade ties are sold all over Mexico and other countries, including Guatemala and the United States .
