Mexican actress Teresa González Corona
, an Acting major at the National Theater School (ENAT) of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBAL) has been accepted at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. “It was the first audition I did in Germany and the first in which I was accepted,” said the actress.
“I think I was accepted in this institution, in addition to my work and effort , because of the excellent education I’ve received at the ENAT,” said the young woman who learned how to speak German less than three years ago in Mexico.
The INBAL informed in a statement that there are 13 state acting schools in Germany and that applicants audition up to 10 times a year.
The Ernest Busch Academy is Germany’s first national conservatory for acting, founded in 1905 by Max Reinhardt , in which acting education is based on the tradition of global theater under the principles of Bertolt Brecht and Konstantin Stanislavski .
According to the INBAL, 1,200 applicants audition for a spot in the acting major. The process consists of two in-person auditions at which the candidates perform three monologues and one song to the synodals commission. One of the roles with which Teresa auditioned was that of Adela from The House of Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca.

There are only 25 spots on each generation of actors and actresses at the Ernst Busch Akademie and, for the first time, at the 2020-2024 class, there will be a Mexican student . It is uncommon for a foreign-language speaker to apply for a place at this academy. The student body is mostly comprised of young people from Germany and Austria .
This educational institution seems to the Mexican student the ideal place to develop as an interpreter . “Lessons are based on Brecht’s and Stanislavski’s methodological focus and [students] work in small groups for the study of scenes, as in Russian schools . Training is based on each actor’s personality and identity .”

“Being accepted represents the possibility to develop myself as an actress and artist in one of the most important and vibrant theater scenes in the world. Studying at this internationally renowned institution will provide me with great technical tools and opportunities.
“I also believe that it will give me a lot in other senses to be able to return to my country with something to contribute . I’m a Mexican that will study acting in a German school and I think that there’s a chance of cultural exchange . This is what excites me the most. Moreover, I won’t be alone for I will take Mexico with me.”
For Teresa González, the ENAT and the INBAL have had a fundamental role in her education and her artistic life. “At the ENAT, I learned that this trade can only be done with dedication and true love for it. I understood theater is about discipline .”
