The man who inspired the Oscar Trophy design

There is a legend that claims that Emilio “Indio” Fernández, a famous Mexican director, actor and screenwriter, was the model for the Oscar trophy . This and other Mexican objects will be part of Hollywood's Academy Museum of Motion Pictures , that will open in 2019 in Los Angeles.

, the Academy's president , claims to have a contract signed between Pancho Villa and a U.S. film studio.

“The contract requested him to carry out the battles during the day because it couldn't be seen at night,” said the filmmaker during a press conference.

“The Academy had been founded and they wanted to design an award, but the actors didn't want to pose naked, so when “El Indio” was young, he had a great body,” said Gregory .

“So Dolores del Río said that she knew someone who could do it, who needed work and it's quite possible that he did do it. I think it's true because I asked Lupita Tovar directly, 20 years ago and she said it was true. She knew Fernández , so this legend will be in the new museum,” said the Selena director.

Nava said that they will continue the restoration processes in collaboration with the National Film Archive ( Cineteca Nacional ) and the UNAM's Film Library , as they have already collaborated to restore films by El Santo.

“We have to acknowledge popular films , they influence a lot,” he says.
