Mexican ballet dancer, Isaac Hernández has become the first Mexican to have been awarded the Prix Benois de la Danse , one of the most prestigious awards in ballet.
Hernández, who is a native of Jalisco , was awarded the prize in the Dancer category.
“It's an honor and a source of great pride to represent Mexico honorably in the world. To become the first Mexican in history to win this important award is proof that everything is possible if we persevere in our dreams. I dedicate this achievement to the Mexican people, who've always supported me, to all the people who've been a part of my life and my path, and to all the ones who have supported me, believed in me, and have motivated me to become a better person and professional,” said Hernández, according to his press office in Mexico.
According to the official website (in English) of the Benois de la Danse award, the winners were announced during the Nominees Gala.
At the ceremony, Isaac Hernández and Jurgita Dronina, both members of the English National Balle t, played Don Quixote's "Pas de Deux", with the coreography of A. Gorsky.
Isaac Hernández was one of the 26 nominees, who represented 13 of the world's leading ballet companies.
With this new award, Isaac continues leaving his mark in international ballet, since just in 2017 he was awarded as the best male dancer in the UK.
