IPN students win silver medal in 2017 RobotChallenge

Students of the National Polytechnic Institute ( Instituto Politécnico Nacional abbreviated IPN ) won silver and bronze medals in RobotChallenge 2017 , the largest robotic championship in Europe held for the first time in Beijing , China , gathering 212 institutions from 26 countries.

Students of the Mechanic and Electric Engineering Higher School ( Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica abbreviated ESIME ) campus Zacatenco presented a clock that can measure the heart rate of a patient and monitor the results in real time in the Free Style competition , in which they obtained the second place.

The information collected by the Yolotzin device (Nahuatl word meaning small heart) can be seen through an application developed through an Android platform and it has the purpose of alerting the patients and immediately assist them in case of emergency.

With the aim of competing, under equal conditions, in the Air Challenge against drones from countries such as Germany , the United States , Taiwan and Poland , José Eduardo Cruces Márquez , Manuel Alejandro Enríquez Rocha and Juan Guillermo Salinas Galicia , commanded by Julio Alberto López Amaya , complimented their knowledge with advisers of the International Mixed Unit ( Unidad Mixta Internacional abbreviated UMI ) of the IPN's Center for Research and Advanced Studies ( Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados abbreviated Cinvestav ).

The students explained that the Air Challenge consisted of programming a drone capable of flying through a route marked with the infinity symbol in black lines on a white background in an autonomous way. Only after two teams from the University of Berlin, Germany, Quetzalcóatl was the robot that completed more laps without falling or crashing.

After their trip to China, where the students were able to compare their own technology with other countries, they consider that Mexico is capable of being a leader in technology products.

Due to their outstanding participation, the Steelcrushers Robots team were invited to participate in the next robotic championships in the University of Poland in December and in the University of Berlin in 2018 .
