More than 30 Mexican films will be screened at independent theaters in 10 states of Mexico as part of the project: “Retrospectives: A Look into Contemporary Mexican Cinema” starting next month.
“Párpados azules” (Blue Eyelids), by Ernesto Contreras; “Bellas de noche,” by María José Cuevas; “Carmín tropical,” by Rigoberto Perezcano; “La vida después,” by David Pablos; and “Japón,” by Carlos Reygadas
are some of the films that will be screened throughout the year.
“We are organizing this retrospective with movies by 17 directors to remind people why Mexican cinema is causing such a fuzz at the global scale,” stated Enrique Vázquez, event coordinator .
Each of the 30 titles will remain in movie theaters such as: Cinemanía Loreto and La Casa del Cine in Mexico City; Cine La Mina, in Guanajuato; Jeudi 27, in Morelia, and Cinema 21, in Xalapa, Veracruz .
The films that will be projected from February 1 to December 31 date from between 2002 and 2018 .
“What we want is for people to learn about contemporary Mexican cinema and have a chance to watch movies that they couldn’t watch in any other format,” stated Andrea Lavagnini, a programmer at Cinemanía Loreto, one of the film venues.
“ Around 30 thousand people are expected to attend during the first 11 months of exhibition ,” stated Vázquez.
The states of Durango, Jalisco, Nayarit, Nuevo León, and Quintana Roo will also participate in the event.
