The Mexican gray wolf ( Canis lupus baileyi ) was declared an endangered species in the late 70's and its population was estimated to barely reach the 50 individuals across the national territory.
Now, this species is being protected in the north of the country and the south of the United States, an endeavor which has been possible thanks to the effort of experts and citizens, members of the 55 institutions both in Mexico and the United States .
Xóchitl Ramos Magaña, a veterinary graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Campus Cuautiltán, is one of those experts taking care of the Mexican wolf.
Ramos is a member of the Mexican Gray Wolf Species Survival Plan, a program which has written a very different story for wolves . As an expert, Ramos has been contributing to the conservation and recovery of this species for several years now.
