Yesterday, five mountain climbers were reported trapped in the highest area of Orizaba's Peak (Pico de Orizaba) where rescue efforts are expected to be resumed today.
The volcano, the tallest peak in Mexico with an elevation of 5636 m (18491 ft), is located on the border of the states of Veracruz and Puebla.
According to local authorities of both states, the five climbers are currently trapped in the area known as El Sarcófago (The Sarcophagus) at 5,200 meters (17,000 ft. approx) but three of them are believed to be wounded.
Yesterday, a helicopter dispatched by the Mexican Navy and Army flew over the region and managed to spot the victims but due to poor weather conditions, their extraction wasn't possible at the time.
This Sunday, authorities hope to retrieve the trapped climbers, two of which are believed to be American citizens.
