Mexican ballerina Elisa Carrillo
won the Prix Benois de la Danse , one of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world, for her role as Juliet in “ Romeo and Juliet” by N acho Duato for the Berlin State Opera , which debuted in May 2018.
The award ceremony took place yesterday, at the Bolshoi theater in Moscow , organized by the International Dance Association .
These prestigious prize has been awarded to talented dancers including Isaac Hernández , Alicia Alonso, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Boris Eifman, Natalia Osipova, Julio Bocca, among others.
Elisa Carrilo
, who was nominated in the Best Ballerina category, gave an emotive message during the ceremony: “I want to thank God and my family because they have always supported me; to the people of Mexico who have believed in me and those who gave me the opportunity to form (sic), to those who opened the door of Europe for me: the Stuttgart Ballet , the Staatsballett Berlin and its directors. All of them helped me grow artistically and achieve this award, which I dedicate to my country, Mexico , and the State of Mexico , my small homeland .”
The Mexican ballerina will present a ballet gala in Mexico City on July 2.
