Today, " Coco ", the Disney-Pixar film about the traditional Day of the Dead , was nominated for best-animated film and for best original song (“ Remember Me ”) at the 75th Golden Globe , according to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association ( HFPA ).
“Coco” is competing against the " Boss Baby " ( DreamWorks Animation LLC; Twentieth Century Fox ), “ The Breadwinner ” ( Cartoon Saloon / Aircraft Pictures / Melusine Productions; GKIDS ), ” Ferdinand ” ( Blue Sky Studios; Twentieth Century Fox ), and “ Loving Vincent ” (Breakthru Films / Trademark Films; Good Deed Entertainment ).
“Coco” is inspired by Mexican traditions , and follows the story of Miguel , a kid who dreams to become a famous musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz . Miguel will then embark on an adventure across the Land of the Dead to find why music is prohibited in his family.

The film depicts many elements from one of the most representative traditions in Mexico: Day of the Dead , and it was directed by Lee Unkrich (“ Toy Story 3 ”), co-directed by Adrian Molina (story artist “ Monsters University ”) and produced by Darla K. Anderson (“ Toy Story 3 ”).
The film received over 4 million spectators in its first opening weekend in Mexico, which has made it the most-watched original animated film in the country.
“Coco” has the voices of Jaime Camil , Benjamin Bratt , Edward James Olmos , Alfonso Arau , Gabriel Iglesias , and Cheech Marin , among others in the English version , while the Spanish version includes the voices of Gabriel García Bernal as well, the writer Elena Poniatowska , and Sofía Espinosa , among others.
