According to a statement released, the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico and Carlos Rivera will participate in the premiere of the new Disney Pixar film, “Coco” on October 24 at the Palace of Fine Arts (Palacio de Bellas Artes) in Mexico City.
All the earnings from ticket sales will be donated to the Center for Musical Training and Mixe Cultural Development, Cecam A.C. and to its member's victims of the September earthquakes.
Cecam has the objective of providing musical education to the children in Oaxaca , mainly in the Mixe and Zapotec regions , in order to save, strengthen, and broadcast music through the training of their students and by creating musical bands in several indigenous communities of the state and the country.
“Coco” is inspired by Mexican and cultural traditions, and follows the story of Miguel, a kid who dreams to become a famous musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Miguel will then embark on an adventure across the Land of the Dead to find why music is prohibited in his family.
The film depicts many elements from one of the most representative traditions in Mexico: Day of the Dead, and was directed by Lee Unkrich, co-directed by Adrian Molina, and produced by Darla K. Anderson. It will arrive in Mexican cinemas on October 27, and to the rest of Latin America on November 23.
