The body of the Mexican businessman Carlos Martín Bringas , co-owner of the supermarket chain Soriana , was found dead inside a car near the Mieleras Industrial Park in the city of Torreón, Coahuila .
Shortly after noon, local authorities were alerted of shots fired and a dead person inside a Volkswagen Touareg vehicle .
The victim was found dead in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound to the left side of the head. The car engine was still running.
Early reports confirmed that the businessman was found with a short-range weapon in his left hand . A spent 9mm casing was also found within the car.
The report triggered a police operation in which several corporations participated. Agents from the Public Prosecutor’s Office secured the scene and the body was taken to the Medical Forensic Service.
Carlos Martín Bringas was part of Grupo Soriana’s board of directors . According to Bloomberg , he was also a board member of the Aeromexico Group , the Monterrey Institute of Technology (Laguna Campus) , the Arocena Museum in Torreón , and the Monetary Fund of La Laguna (FOMEC) .
His siblings Pedro Luis, Ricardo, and Ana María Martín Bringas are also co-owners of the business group
Yesterday, at the Mexican Stock Exchange , the Soriana Organization announced “the unfortunate passing of Carlos Eduardo Martín Bringas, member of this institution’s Board of Directors, who was declared dead on January 18 of the present year in the city of Torreón, Coahuila .”
“All of our prayers go to his family and friends, to whom we address our condolences with respect and affection.”
The attorney general’s office in Coahuila has not yet revealed further details on the case.
