Mexico’s President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) recently announced that Senator Manuel Bartlett will be in charge of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) , and that Octavio Romero Oropeza is to take the lead of Mexican Petroleums (PEMEX) .
At a press conference in AMLO’s transitional house, the President-elect appointed officials to lead the energy sector in the upcoming six-year term. He also confirmed Rocío Nahle ’s role as future Secretary of Energy , and Alfredo Montoya as Assistant Secretary General .
Furthermore, the deputy director-general of the CFE will be Carlos Morales Mar , whereas Luis Abelardo González shall serve as coordinator of renewable energy policies .
The left-wing politician from Tabasco , in company of his newly appointed team, also announced an additional 304,000 million pesos investment for an energy sector bailout that is to be implemented in the next three years.
The investment will focus on four projects: MXN$75,000 million will go to oil exploration and drilling ; MXN$49,000 million will be used for the rehabilitation of Mexico’s six oil refineries ; MXN$160 million will be used to build a new refinery in Dos Bocas, Tabasco , and MXN$20,000 million will be used to increase electric power production .
AMLO also stated that he would invest 175,000 million pesos for this purpose on his first year as president.
“We have decided that the reconstruction of our country can wait no longer,” claimed López Obrador.
