The Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto and the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, John F. Kelly, agreed to work together in order to combat transnational organized crime from the perspective of joint responsibility that both nations have acknowledged.
In the meeting that lasted more than an hour and which was held at the Official Residence of Los Pinos , in Mexico City, the President remarked the relevance of working with the US to keep supporting measures that promote the efficient and organized flow of goods and people throughout the border.
Peña Nieto mentioned the Conference on Prosperity and Security in Central America , held last June 15 and 16 in Miami, Florida , as a successful example of joint efforts to face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities provided by the region in terms of economy, migration, and security.
In addition, Peña Nieto recognized the decision of the US government of maintaining the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and reasserted the Mexican government's commitment to protecting the rights of Mexicans in the United States.
