The National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) has invested in the last five years about MXN$15.597.475 for the conservation of the forest of Nanacamilpa in the state of Tlaxcala , where the firefly Macrolampis palaciosi lives.

The CONAFOR said that this year they invested MXN$1,6 million for the collection and filtration of rainwater, restoration works, soil improvement and prevention of forest fires.
The sighting of the endemic firefly occurs from June to August each year.
In Mexico, according to the Institute of Biology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), there are 22 genera of fireflies , the number of registered species is 164 , of which 84 are endemic.
Through a statement, the Commission indicated that it has also supported the San José Nanacamilpa, San Felipe Hidalgo, Lira and Ortega ejidos , areas of communal land used for agriculture, as well as the Fresh Forest Rural Production Society and the Piedra Canteada Society .
