President of Portugal appointed Distinguished Guest

The head of government of Mexico City, Miguel Ángel Mancera , appointed the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa , as Distinguished Guest.

He recalled that this is the first time in 18 years that a Portuguese president visits the country.

He pointed out that both nations maintain economic and commercial ties , proof of that is that Mexico is Portugal's third commercial supplier .

He said that, given the current context, the country has the opportunity to "turn to trading experience with Portugal. It is not a coincidence that today we have such important companies in that country carrying out infrastructure works in various cities."

In addition, Mancera offered a joint effort with Mexico City to promote tourism and strengthen cultural ties .

In the Hall of Cabildos, of the Town Hall Old Palace, he gave to Marcelo Rebelo the Key to the City, Parchment and Medal, as well as the Wings of the City.

"We are going to continue building this relationship , Mr. President, learning from the experiences that you have faced so well and from those that you have managed to take advantage of and, of course, to strengthen these commercial ties," Macera told Rebelo.

The president of Portugal thanked the distinction and said: "I will walk through the city, admire the monuments and know the people, the culture, the history and traditions of one of the great cities of the world ... I receive this recognition with all the gratitude and on behalf of 10 million Portuguese , thank you."

He also invited the head of Mexico City to visit his country and "to be a citizen of my country, as I now feel in this great metropolis."
