A federal judge revoked two arrest warrants issued against the former governor of Veracruz, Javier Duarte de Ochoa , by a criminal judge in the state of Veracruz.
The arrest warrants are contained in criminal cases 38/2017 and 56/2017, for which the government of Veracruz requested his extradition .
These orders were issued for crimes of abuse of authority, breach of legal duty, embezzlement, influence peddling and coalition.
None of these crimes are serious, so they do not deserve preventive detention , consequently, the First District Judge of Legal Protection in Criminal Matters in Mexico City, Sandra Leticia Robledo Magaña , granted the provisional suspension against those arrest warrants.
The lawsuit was filed yesterday when Duarte arrived in Mexico City after being extradited.
To preserve the measure, the judge set as a guarantee the amount of MXN$6.000 and next July 26 will determine whether or not to grant the final suspension.
Yesterday during his first hearing before a Mexican judge, Javier Duarte was subject to pretrial detention for organized crime and money laundering, accusations issued against him by the Attorney General's Office.
The judge ordered the former governor to remain in the Northern Prison (Reclusorio Norte), at least until Saturday , when he will hold another hearing in which it will be determined whether or not he is linked to the criminal proceeding.
