José Juárez, a Mexican immigrant living in the U.S., found the message "Mexicans the human version of rats" stamped on the back of one dollar bill.
Juárez, who lives in San Diego, California, said he went shopping on Saturday in the area of Linda Vista, and it was until Sunday he noticed the message stamped on the dollar bill, so he has no idea where he could have received it.
He decided to share it on social networks to denounce the hate message against Mexicans.
Elena Blanco, who also lives in San Diego, posted a similar situation on social networks. She noticed a hate message against Mexico along with a swastika stamped on one of her US$ 20 bills.
Joanna Mendelson, activist and member of the Anti-Defamation League, which investigates complaints of racism and discrimination, also denounced this situation on social networks.
“The xenophobic message 'Mexicans the human version of rats' stamped on $1 bill in circulation in CA. No different than Nazi thinking.” she wrote on Twitter.
Despite the offensive message, the Anti-Defamation League told Univision San Diego that this is not a hate crime because "there is no vandalism, there is no violence and there is no robbery. It is a text on a dollar bill so it is not clear who is the victim or the attacker. "
