A citizen voluntarily turned over a male African lion to officials from the Mexican Federal Environmental Protection Agency (in Culiacan, Sinaloa. The animal showed signs of malnutrition, and had scars, scratches and abrasions on its body, but it is currently in a stable condition.
In a separate event, the agency received a bobcat from Civil Protection agents. The bobcat was captured in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, after an anonymous tip led to its discovery. After being examined by veterinarians and found to be in good conditions, the bobcat was released back into its natural habitat in the municipality of Ahome.
Under Mexico's General Wildlife Law, keeping these animals as pets is illegal.
