The Spanish High Court has confirmed the extradition to Mexico of Diego Cruz Alonso, also known as a member of “Los Porkys de Costa de Oro”, the 21-year-old youth arrested earlier this year in Madrid for charges of gang-raping a minor in the Mexican state of Veracruz.
The eighteen judges who issue sentence in the Criminal Chamber of the Spanish High Court have discussed and agreed that “all the conditions for the extradition are present” and that the fact that the accused holds the Spanish nationality “does not impede whatsoever” his extradition process to Mexico.
Cruz Alonso was arrested last June 11 by order of the Interpol, after the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico (PGR) issued and international mandate against him for his alleged participation in the gang-rape of a 17-year-old minor in the Mexican state of Veracruz in 2015.
The Spanish High Court has yet to notify the Ministry of Justice of their decision in a process that may take a couple of days, as a string of public holidays begins in Spain next Tuesday. The extradition request could be ready for the upcoming Council of Ministers next December 9 or 16, when the Spanish government could sign the extradition document.
However, the signing of the document is considered a mere formality. After the signage, the Spanish justice will coordinate the arrival of Mexican agents from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to the Spanish airport of Barajas, where Cruz Alonso’s custody will be handed over to Mexican authorities.
