The United Nations condemned the killing of Mexican journalist Jesús Adrián Rodríguez Samaniego, who was shot on December 10 outside his home in Chihuahua, northern Mexico.
Jan Jarab, Mexico representative of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said that no attack against journalists should go unpunished.
In addition, Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova, called for an investigation into the killing of Rodríguez Samaniego.
“I condemn the murder of Jesús Adrián Rodríguez Samaniego,” Bokova said. “I call on the authorities to investigate this crime and bring its perpetrators to justice. Society as a whole must take responsibility for the safety of journalists on whom everyone depends to sustain informed public debate. Violence cannot be allowed to curb the fundamental human right of freedom of expression and freedom of information.”
