Mexico's National Competitiveness Index has grown over the last five years by 4.94%, increasing the country from overall score from 98.02 to 102.86 according to a report released by Mexico's statistics agency, the Inegi.
Mexico improved six out of seven of the factors taken into account for assessing a country's competitiveness.
Of the 7 factors, Mexico's institutions suffered a blow over these years, which decreased its rating by 3.50%, due to an increase in overall crime in the country, an increase in household expenses spent on heightened security and increased construction permit costs.
Factor-driven, efficiency-driven, and innovation-driven and infrastructure are the factors that showed the greatest improvement over the 2010 – 2015 period.
The Inegi, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Economy, presented the National Competitiveness Index for the 2010 – 2015 period. This is a comprehensive tool used to measure the development of Mexico's competitiveness over time.
This indicator was created by experts in competitiveness from various leading private sector, public and academic institutions in Mexico.
