The Ministry of National Defense (Sedena, Spanish acronym) has confirmed that an MD-530F helicopter belonging to the Mexican Air Force crashed around eight kilometers east of Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas.
On board the helicopter were two Lieutenant pilots, and a Lieutenant Colonel who was travelling as an observer. The pilot and the Lieutenant Colonel died at the scene of the accident, and the co-pilot was rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to a press release by the Sedena, the aircraft took off at 2:21 pm from the Ciudad Victoria International Airport, and communication was lost with the aircraft a little over 2 hours later at 4:30 pm.
Upon receiving news of the tragedy, several high-ranking Generals, Officers, Troops and members of the Air Forces expressed their condolences to family members of the deceased.
