The Office of the President of Mexico confirmed that the President will leave tonight for Israel to attend the funeral of former Israeli President and winner of the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize Shimon Peres, who died on Wednesday at the age of 93.
Peña Nieto expressed his condolences to the people of Israel and to family members of the former Israeli President. “We Mexicans have fond memories of Mr. Peres' visits to our country and the kind words he shared about our country and people,” Peña Nieto said.
On November 27, 2013, Peña Nieto met with Peres in the official residence and office of the President of Mexico. “Just like Mexico is waking up Latin America, Israel wishes to do the same in our region; we aren't born to be enemies, to dominate other people or take away their land. We are born to spread peace,” said Peres at the meeting.
