Radioactive source stolen in Sonora

A radioactive source was stolen today in Ciudad Obregón, in the northern state of Sonora, the National Coordination of Civil Protection of the Interior Ministry reported.

Civil Protection issued an alert from Sonora to the neighboring states of Baja California, Sinaloa and Chihuahua.

The radioactive material was stolen from a white Pick Up 250, model 2009, with plate number VC 04659.

The container, with serial number N/S M350707988, carries a source with Americium Isotopes, Beryllium and Cesium.

"The radioactive source can be dangerous for people if not handled safely and can cause permanent injury," said Civil Protection.
