Mexico condemns coup attempt in Turkey

Mexican government on Friday condemned the attempted coup by members of the armed forces in Turkey, saying in a statement that it was an attempt to suspend the country's democratic system.

"Mexico reiterates its conviction about the respect of the democratic principles and constitutional order," said Mexico's Foreign Ministry in a brief statement.

President Enrique Peña Nieto reported via Twitter that his administration is closely monitoring the situation in Turkey. 
He further reported that embassy and consulate staff is ready to assist fellow countrymen.
